The Umoja Community Education Foundation Announces the Launch of the 2024 Summer Learning Institute

[Sacramento, California] – [March 13, 2024] – The Umoja Community Education Foundation is excited to announce the 2024 Summer Learning Institute (SLI), set to take place at The DoubleTree Rohnert Park from June 11th to 13th, 2024. This intensive institute is tailor-made for faculty, staff, and administrators affiliated with Umoja Community programs, offering a unique opportunity for professional development and collaboration.

Designed to immerse attendees in the rich philosophy, pedagogy, and theoretical foundations of the Umoja Community model, the Summer Learning Institute promises a dynamic platform for educators from California Community Colleges to engage in bold and courageous discussions about education practices that stimulate the genius of our students. Attendees will collaborate with their colleagues throughout the institute to exchange ideas and refine their programs through insightful discussions, keynotes, and activities. Emphasizing collective work and responsibility, college teams are encouraged to attend together, fostering a supportive environment for enhancing their respective programs.

Key themes and topics to be explored at the SLI include:

  • Umoja Program purpose, structure, and implementation
  • Expressions of African customs, traditions, and educational legacies
  • Cultural responsiveness for English, Math, Counseling, and college success/guidance courses

Ultimately, the institute aims to empower educators with the tools and knowledge necessary to create inclusive and culturally responsive learning environments.

Registration for the 2024 Summer Learning Institute is now open, and interested participants are encouraged to secure their spots early to take advantage of this invaluable professional development opportunity.
